Mental illness arises because of a combination of three factors: 1.) Brain dysfunction (often heavily influenced by genetic predisposition) 2. Life stressors and 3.) Maladaptive coping skills or life-styles. In some patients, one factor will be of greater importance than the rest. For others, the balance will be different. Treatment planning will take all three factors into consideration and therefore, will often include medication, psychotherapy, stress reduction strategies, and perhaps, life-style changes. At the end of your first appointment, we will discuss treatment options and develop a treatment plan together.
